Tatay Bob’s “Big Eight Oh” Birthday Celebration July 28, 2024

The Lord’s Flock Catholic Charismatic Community came together to celebrate a joyous milestone for one of its Elders-Founders, Bro. Bobby Rodriguez, affectionately known as “Tatay Bob.”  In a heartwarming surprise advance birthday celebration held at the elegant Seda Hotel, Vertis North, over 200 guests, including Tatay’s family, members of The Lord’s Flock (TLF) and special guests, gathered to honor the man who has been a pillar of faith and service to the community. Themed “The Big Eight Oh,” the event was a testament to Tatay Bob’s grateful spirit as he approaches his 80th birthday on August 10.

The foyer was decked with a huge exhibit of Tatay Bob’s milestones. The guests were delighted with the cherished moments of Tatay Bob during his 30s, 60s and 80s; they took their photos against this backdrop while waiting for the man of the hour to arrive.

The evening commenced with a grand surprise as guests awaited Tatay Bob in the foyer. “Soar” Techie Rodriguez, who looked gorgeous in a glittering silver gown, led the well-wishers. Froilan Hong and Allan Almendrala took Tatay on a round-about trip before bringing him to the hotel. As he stepped out of the elevator, a chorus of “Surprise!” astounded him! Tatay Bob was ushered to the main hall by the lively Koros Ministry who danced to the upbeat tune of “Tootsie Roll.”

The program started with a solemn opening prayer by Fr. Alex Balatbat, one of the spiritual advisers of The Lord’s Flock. Moderators Raymund Nobleza and Gina Duran took center-stage in their elegant outfits. They energized the crowd with interactive activities centered on Tatay Bob’s favorite sports and foods, which the guests enthusiastically participated in. Thereafter, members of the PSALM ministry, both past and present, serenaded Tatay Bob with his favorite songs.

The highlight was a touching rendition of “In His Time” by unica hija, Mik-Mik Flores. Tatay Bob joined her and shared the poignant story why this song holds a special place in his heart, a constant reminder of God’s promise to him.  The celebration reached its peak with the birthday song by the Amigos Band and the 3-tier cake, which was brought in by the staff of Seda Hotel. In a nod to Tatay Bob’s career as a pilot, guests honored him by tossing blue paper planes towards him.

Arch. Dinky Florentino led the blessing prayer for Tatay Bob and the food, after which the guests enjoyed a sumptuous buffet dinner while being entertained by classic hits. The festivities continued with various groups eagerly having their photos with Tatay Bob at the center stage. Guests also had the opportunity to drop personal messages and birthday wishes into a message box.

Tatay Bob was specially moved by his grandsons’ heartfelt tributes: Erin and Caleb Flores sent video messages, while youngest grandson, Zech, rendered a touching performance of a classic song, “Put Your Head On My Shoulder.”

Arch. Froilan Hong followed with a speech honoring Tatay Bob, adding to the evening’s sentiments. As the program neared its end, a same day edit video recapped the evening’s highlights. The Koros Ministry and the Execom showed their dancing skills with a dance medley which delighted everyone and encouraged them to hit the dancefloor. The guests danced the night away to the music played by the Amigos Band until 11 PM.

The Big Eight Oh” was a resounding success, and reflected the love and respect that the community holds for Tatay Bob. The thrill of keeping the celebration a surprise and seeing Tatay Bob’s happiness made all the planning worthwhile. The guests left with cherished memories of a night filled with joy, gratitude, and heartfelt tributes.
