Health is Wealth: “The LAB DAB of our Body”

The Saint Luke’s Ministry launched a new online program “Health is Wealth”, on February 28, 2021, hosted by Bro. Dr. Joey Agoba, and attended via Zoom by local as well as international members. Sis. Dr. Helen Florentino introduced the program – a monthly webinar that will provide Lord’s Flock members with tips that will keep the body healthy because everything is preventable. More importantly, the body is God’s temple, and thus, you need to keep yourselves pure, holy, and praiseworthy (1 Cor 3:17).

Since February was the month of love, the initial topic was aptly titled “Lab Dab,” a presentation on how to keep your heart healthy, by Dr. Marie Barrientos-Regala, a Cardiologist at the Manila Doctors Hospital, and a member of the Lord’s Flock Community for 18 years.

Dr. Marie shared the importance of a healthy heart, 8 tips to take care of your heart, and when to seek medical consultation.

  1. Sit Less, Walk More. Adults should get at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity.
  2. Eat better according to nutritional value. Be mindful of foods to a) enjoy, b) to limit and c) to avoid. Cooking at home allows you to select ingredients better and to reduce the amount of sodium, saturated fats, and sugar in your food.
  3. Manage your weight. This is important in order to reduce the burden on your organs. The key is to burn more calories than you consume.
  4. Control cholesterol. Eat Smart. Move more. Take the prescribed medication.
  5. Manage blood sugar. Eat Smart. Move more. Take the prescribed medication.
  6. Stop smoking. Smoking can damage every part of the body and poses a greater risk of cardiovascular disease.
  7. Manage Blood Pressure. Eat Smart. Move more. Take the prescribed medication. Get adequate sleep (7-9 hours).
  8. Prayer and meditation. These will relax the mind, lower blood pressure and stress, and speed up recovery. Finally, prayer and meditation will make you positive and happy.

Practice all of the above to have a healthy heart. Honor God with your body (1 Cor 6:19-20). Faith in God will make you stress-free, hence life will be more joyful. How beautiful life can be!

Speaking about the heart, our very own Tatay Bob Rodriguez, shared his experience about his heart disease. He narrated how God has been taking care of his heart since 1999 when he had a successful operation to clear 3 blockages in his heart. His recovery was very easy, with no pains, and there was no need for post-operation therapy. Fast forward to 2020, the doctors said he had another blockage. When he was praying to the Lord, he opened the Bible to the story of the bleeding woman who was healed when she touched the robe of Jesus. He took this message to heart and touched the Blessed Sacrament with the prayer for healing so that he can accomplish more work for the Lord. Indeed, the Lord gave him a miracle and healed him of any blockage. His faith healed him. To God be the glory!
