ANG HAMON NG KRUS A LENTEN PLAY – HOLY TUESDAY, March 31, 2026

The Theater Arts Ministry (Dulaang Teatrong Ugnay sa Pangkristiyanong Adhikain, “TUPA”) under the SERVICE Ministry of The Lords Flock (TLF) Catholic Charismatic Community produced the play “ANG HAMON NG KRUS” as part of its Lenten Program. It was presented at the Heritage Spiritual Formation Center on March 31, 2026. The original play was translated to Tagalog by Narciso Castro Jr.  and was adopted to the trends of the new millennium by Sis. Roselyn Baclig (Steward of the Theater Arts Ministry) along with her Assistant Directors Bro. Ricardo Rodelas and Bro. Jolo Baclig. The stage production was managed by Sis. Remy Sisteberio and Sis Quey Queyquep. “Ang Hamon ng Krus” mirrors God’s calling to all – a call to serve, love, and lay down one’s life, even amidst trials, which is particularly relevant during the season of reflection on the Passion of Jesus Christ.

Raymund Nobleza (Head Steward, SERVICE Ministry) emceed the program, while Tatay Bobby Rodriguez (Elder-Founder) gave an introduction. He cited Matthew 16:24 “Then Jesus said to his disciples, if anyone wants to come with me, he must forget himself, carry his cross, and follow me”.

THE PRESENTATION OF THE PLAY

The play started with a dramatic dark setting and solemn music to introduce the trialogue of the three kids (Sophie Anito, Carlo Barreda and Patrick Barreda). A creative dance followed which was executed beautifully by the Koros Ministry (Arianne Nones, Shiela Cruz, Camile Lee, Paul Iacea, Judith Gonzales and Dan Mendoza) to the song “Bakit ako, Panginoon?” It conveys the message that every cross we carry has a purpose in God’s greater plan.

The play featured two gentle messengers – an Angel of Kindness (portrayed by Sis. Dr. Edel Patdu) and an Angel on Duty (portrayed by Sis. Bea Baclig).  These two angels were tasked by God to find disciples. During their search, many people approached them to try and serve God.  However, many of them failed to meet the requirement for service involves bearing the cross.

THE VOLUNTEERS

Several volunteers showed up who were given different types of crosses; however, all of them could not accept their respective crosses for their personal reasons:

  • an ambitious OFW (portrayed by Sis. Aileen Francisco) was given a Golden Cross which she did not want to accept because it was too heavy;
  • a student gamer (portrayed by Bro. Alexis Bagaipo) was given a rugged cross made of oak bar, but he wanted to choose his own type of cross;
  • a high-fashion stylist (portrayed by Sis. Theresa Almendrala) was given a small, laced cross which she made into an adornment for her bag;
  • a coward employee (portrayed by Sis. Judelyn Retiro) was given a wooden cross that she hid from others because she was embarrassed to be seen with it;
  • A famous Tiktoker (portrayed by Sis. Edliyn Barreda) was given a wooden cross shaped as ring light which she did not want to use;
  • a hypocrite government employee (portrayed by Bro. John Bayani) was a wealthy man but didn’t want to feel any discomfort or limitation in his personal freedom.

Thus, the messengers of God became so tired, frustrated and confused that nobody was qualified to be God’s Disciple. Finally, an ordinary person (portrayed by Bro. Jon Kevin Bartolome) approached them and tried to carry the Big Cross.  The cross was so heavy that he was assisted by his wife Basha and children Tom and Chris (portrayed by his real wife Brigitte and two children Raine and Kibre). Together, they successfully carried the Big Cross.  He realized that the gift of FAMILY is a blessing as they journey together in God’s LOVE.

THE ESSENCE OF THE CROSS

The play emphasized that “TRUE SERVICE INVOLVES SACRIFICE. EVERYONE IS CALLED, BUT FEW ARE WILLING TO CARRY THE CROSS.”  Moreover, Jesus promises, “COME TO ME, ALL OF YOU WHO ARE TIRED FROM CARRYING HEAVY LOADS AND I WILL GIVE YOU REST” (Matthew 11:28).

Congratulations to the whole ensemble for a truly inspirational presentation that touched the hearts of the audience.

To God be the Glory!
