Maturing in the Spirit Seminar

August 20, 2017

On August 19 to 20, I attended the Maturing in the Spirit Seminar in The Lord’s Flock Catholic Charismatic Community. The event started with a short Praise and Worship. Recalling the talk in the previous seminar about the many ways to praise God, I along with the other candidates, joyfully joined the Psalm Ministry in dancing and in singing. It was another day to learn more about our beloved God.

The first talk was “Blessings in Obedience” given by Brother Boy Tan . He talked about how good it is to obey God. As Christians, sometimes it is hard for us to obey, especially when what God wants us to do is something confusing or seemingly impossible. But when we obey, we let The Holy Spirit guide, empower and direct us to the right path. In doing so, we receive blessings beyond what we expect.

The next two talks were given by the Elder, Founder and Headservant of the community, Sister Techie Rodriguez. The first one was “Keys to a powerful prayer”. According to her, God always answers our prayers (Jeremiah 33:3), even when we feel like He doesn’t. She encouraged everyone to talk to God daily, to depend on Him and  to know Him more each day. We have the privilege to call God our “Father”, and we should always do this in our prayers. We must praise Him and depend on Him, as we pray in faith. Her next talk was “Power of The Word”.  She talked about how important “The Word of God” truly is. In our lives, The Word is our guide because it corrects , reproofs and teaches us what we should do and how we should live. “The Word of God  is the medicine to our lives and health to our Spirits,” she said during her talk, “It is our weapon against the enemy.” (Ephesians 6:17). I found myself amazed at how much Sister Techie studies The Word of God, and at how she could quote so many Bible verses in one talk. As the day ended, I along with  the  cother andidates went home with eagerness in our hearts to come back the next day for the second part of the seminar.

August 20, 2017 came, and I found myself once again sitting amongst the many candidates, excited to hear more of God’word. The first talk for that day was “Turning Trials into Triumph” given by Sister Techie’s husband, also the Elder, Founder and Headservant of the community, Brother Bobby Rodriguez. He told us the reason  why we suffer, and that is for us to mature. According to him, a trial is a test of faith. There are different kinds of trials we face in life, and as Christians, we are constantly facing these trials (2 Timothy 3:12). But how do we turn them into triumph? We pray first, and we face them with a joyful attitude, knowing that God is shaping us to be better people.

“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they are good for us – they help us learn to endure.”

~Romans 5:3

The next talk was “Faith that moves Mountains” once again given by Sister Techie Rodriguez. She talked about the miracles that come out from being faithful. I was greatly amazed when she shared about how The Lord’s Flock Heritage came to be. They had no money to buy a lot, let alone construct a building, but they trusted God’s word . They knew that it was God’s voice that told them to build the Heritage, and that was what they did. So many people tried to stop them, so many  doubted, but they kept their faith and believed, constantly praying and trusting God with all their hearts (Proverbs 3:5). God provided everything for them in the most miraculous ways. From fundraising projects , to getting permits, to clearing out trees, God gave them everything they needed (Philippians 4:19). And now, there was The Heritage, though still not finished, it stands there, a perfect picture of God’s power and miracles. Sister Techie testified about so many things, like how she was miraculously healed when she had cancer. I was simply left in awe  at how amazing God is. And truly miracles can happen with faith.

“…Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

~Matthew 17:20

The last talk for the seminar was “Renewal of the Mind” given by one of the Headservants of the community, Brother Froilan Hong.  He talked about how we are attacked by the three enemies; the world, the flesh and the devil. He talked about how these enemies can corrupt our minds, and how we should protect ourselves. These enemies will tell us lies, trying to swerve us from our faith. But with a renewed mind, we must hold on to our faith, hold on to The Word of God, that we may be protected. We must hold on to our faith and take heart, and obtain righteousness in our hearts (Romans 10:10). In doing so, no matter what these enemies tell us, we will not be overcome, and we will have power over evil.

Before the seminar finally ended, I experienced a very special moment in my life.. We were told to line up for a healing session by the Touch Ministry who  would lay their hands on us that we may receive healing from God. As I stood in front of one of the members of the ministry, I raised my hands up in surrender, whispering a prayer. What happened next surprised me. I suddenly felt like I was floating, but my body was falling back. As one of the members caught me from behind, I felt God’s arms catching  me, His hands comforting me as if saying, “I love you, My child. You are healed.” It was truly an amazing experience, and I was very blessed to be a part of it. At the end of the day, as I was going home, I felt the love of God and the fire of faith once again burning within my heart. In a quiet whisper, I looked up at the sky and said, “Thank You, God… For everything.”
